Cambridge Exams for Adults (KET, PET, FCE, CAE, CPE)

Cambridge English exams A2 Key (KET), B1 Preliminary (PET), B2 First (FCE), C1 Advanced (CAE), C2 Proficiency (CPE) are among the most widely taken language exams in the world. Cambridge Assessment English Certificates have an unlimited validity. You will never have to take the exam again - your certificate will always be recognized by companies and educational institutions worldwide as an undisputed confirmation of internationally recognized language proficiency standards.

A2 Key
(KET)

This is an Elementary level exam that tests the ability to use basic linguistic constructs in conversation and writing. If you understand simple texts, short phrases and can communicate in situations that are familiar to you- the KET exam is for you.

The Cambridge A2 Key certificate enables you to work abroad in some countries (for example, Denmark and the Netherlands) in areas that do not require advanced language skills. KET is also necessary for a "wife visa".

Cambridge A2 Key (KET) is annually taken by over 40,000 people in more than 60 countries.

Having successfully passed the Cambridge A2 Key exam, you will receive a Cambridge A2-level certificate, and in case of gettiong "A" grade - the B1-level certificate.

Exam format

The Cambridge A2 Key (KET) exam consists of three parts that test four language skills (reading, writing, speaking and listening). Each skill corresponds to 25% of the total score:

Reading and writing:
• Duration - 1 hour
• parts 1-5 mostly test reading skills,
• parts 6-7 test written skills
Listening:
• Duration - about 30 minutes
• five tasks
• In each section, you need to listen to a text or texts and answer some questions
• Each text is listened to twice
Speaking:
• Duration - 8-10 minutes
• two parts in pair with another candidate
• two examiners: one is talking to you, the other is listening; both are giving grades

B1 Preliminary
(PET)

This is an Intermediate level exam. If you can read simple books and articles, write simple letters and communicate on common topics, then this exam is for you.

B1 Preliminary (PET) will suit you if you plan to work or study abroad. Also, this exam can become an important experience and preparation stage for higher level examinations.

B1 Preliminary is annually taken by more than 80,000 people in more than 80 countries.

After successfully completing the B1 Preliminary (PET) exam, you will receive a Cambridge B1 certificate, and after getting "A" grade - a B2-level certificate that corresponds to the B2 First (FCE) exam. Even if you fail to successfully complete B1 Preliminary, you can still get an A2 certificate.

The B1 Preliminary (PET) exam consists of three parts that test four language skills (reading, writing, speaking and listening). Each skill corresponds to 25% of the total score:

Reading:
• Duration - 45 minutes
• 6 different parts in the form of texts and questions
Writing:
• Duration - 45 minutes
• 2 parts, each requires writing a text of 100 words or longer
Listening:
• Duration - about 30 minutes
• five tasks
• In each section, you need to listen to text or texts and answer questions
• Each part is listened to twice
Speaking:
• Duration - 12 minutes
• In a pair with another candidate
• two examiners: one is talking to you, the other is listening; both are giving grades.

B2 First
(FCE)

This is an Upper-Intermediate level exam. If your English level is good enough for use in daily communication, business and education, then B2 First (FCE) is an exam for you.

B2 First is an ideal choice if you want to study abroad or work and pursue a career in an industry that requires advanced language skills (for example - business, medicine or engineering).

The B2 First (FCE) is annually taken by over 270,000 people in more than 100 countries.

Having successfully passed the B2 First exam, you will receive a Cambridge B2 Level Certificate, and if your grade is "A" - a C1 certificate that matches the C1 Advanced (CAE) exam. Even if you fail the B2 First exam, you can still get a B1-level certificate.

The B2 First exam consists of four parts that test five linguistic skills (reading, writing, speaking and listening). Each skill corresponds to 20% of the total score:

Reading and grammar:
• Duration - 1 hour 15 minutes
• 7 different parts in the form of texts and grammar tasks
• 52 questions
Writing:
• Duration - 1 hour 15 minutes
• 2 parts, with an obligatory essay task, and the choice of second part
Speaking:
• Duration - 14-16 minutes

• 4 parts

C1 Advanced

This is an Advanced level exam. If you are able to use complex language structures, communicate easily and freely in a variety of situations - the C1 Advanced (CAE) exam is for you.

This certificate is recognized by employers and institutions of higher education in many countries as an unconditional acknowledgment of a high level of English language proficiency.

Having successfully passed the C1 Advanced (CAE) exam, you will receive a Cambridge C1 degree certificate, and after receiving "A" grade - a C2-level certificate which corresponds to the C2 Proficiency (CPE) exam. Even if you fail to successfully complete C1 Advanced (CAE), you can still get a B2 level certificate that corresponds to the B2 First (FCE) exam.

The C1 Advanced (CAE) exam consists of four parts that test five linguistic skills (reading, writing, speaking and listening). Each skill corresponds to 20% of the total score:

Reading and grammar:
• Duration - 1.5 hours
• 8 different parts in the form of texts and grammar tasks
• 56 questions
Writing:
• Duration - 1.5 hours
• 2 parts, where essay is an obligatory task, and the second task can be chosen
Speaking:
• Duration 16-18 minutes
• In pair with another candidate
• 4 parts
• two examiners: one is talking to you, the other is listening; both are giving grades
Listening:
• Duration - about 40 minutes

C2 Proficiency
(CPE)

"Certificate of Professional English Language" is an exam for those who speak English at a very high level. The candidate for this exam is able to use the language practically at the level of the native speaker. CPE is widely known in the educational, scientific and industrial institutions of the world as evidence of an exceptionally high level of English language proficiency.

 

Having successfully completed the CPE exam, you will receive a Cambridge C2 Certificate. Even if you fail to successfully complete CPE, you can still get a C1-level certificate that corresponds to the C1 Advanced (CAE) exam.

The CPE exam consists of four parts that test five linguistic skills (reading, writing, speaking and listening). Each skill corresponds to 20% of the total score:

 

Reading and grammar:
• Duration -1.5 hours
• 7 different parts in the form of texts and questions
• 53 questions
 
Writing:
• Duration - 1.5 hours
• 2 parts, where the essay is a compulsory task and the second task can be chosen
 
Interview:
